DFAT 2011 kicked off with a delicious welcome dinner to the participants at the

| I was almost ready for Davao Food Appreciation Tour 2011 when Ate Leah, the Travel Teller and I got late on the welcome dinner after the facial treatment we had at Bioessence.(awts! pero bongga lang.) |
But I was glad that even we were an hour late, the organizers were kind enough to let us fill our empty stomachs with great tasting aliments.Still, I felt quite unnerved and embarrassed to be around people who might have waited long to feast on Yellow Fin's best sellers. Pero, obviously they didn't wait any longer and eventually eat like there's no tomorrow at Yellow Fin Seafood and Restaurant.
These are just 3 of my favorite dishes at Yellow Fin. . .

| Pork Liempo, Kinilaw and Laing. |
Of the 3, Laing was my favorite. It's the less common here in Davao and arguably in Mindanao for unlike most Laing dishes (I've had) it has fish on it.The taste of the fish well complemented the spicy flavor; and the texture of the gabi leaves made the taste more divine.

| Adobong Tuna Buntot, Grease less Chicken, Imbao Soup |
I was able to try the Adobong Tuna Buntot and Imba Soup but I didn't know there exist such thing as the Grease less chicken! I would have eaten that if they told me its difference with any other fried chicken.Yeah! I missed to at least have a bite of their grease less chicken. Most reviews says that even though the restaurant is known for being number 1 on Seafood meals, their greaseless chicken is a must-try.
The Adobong Tuna was crispy on the outside and has a soft chewy meat in the inside making every bite so heavenly. While Imba Soup lead me to the start of a non-stop seafood eating spree! It was a superb dinner. I'm happy I was able to catch up with them, met other bloggers, who like me, will take part on this year's grandest event.
A little while later, I felt sleepy, so Ate Leah and I opted to go home while the others went to a coffee shop. And I went home with big smile. . . . .and a big stomach! Looking forward. . to a more scrumptious meal the following day.
Yellow Fin Seafood and Restaurant is a place I will definitely recommended!

5 Fun Facts About Batman
I came to see Batman face to face, during the Ultimate Samal Adventure 2011. I'm not kidding you, he's real! In fact I've been to his Batcave and learned fun facts about his life. He told me not to spill out too much secrets because if I did so he'll be traced up by Joker, The Riddler, Poison Ivy or Penguin. That's why from about the millions of things he told me, I boiled it down to 5. So you want to know the 5 facts about Batman? Read on.
5. Batman is Eco Friendly!
I know you've been absolutely blinded by the fact that the action tv series or movies of Batman are dark, violent and destructive. Then allow me to enlighten you that Batman helps Mother Earth whenever he's at flight. Batman, among all the superheroes is the only Eco-friendly. How? He helps on pollinating many plants. Since Batman is a vegetarian. .he feeds on nectar, fruits, veggies and eat them while at flight. :p
Batman however, always gets a bad rap about being associated with Vampires but there are only three species of vampire bats out of more than a thousand other species of bats. And yes, our dear Batman is indeed of the other specie - a fruit bat!
If Batman dropped your jaw with his techie gadgets and action stunts then you haven't seen his special power yet.Yes he does have a power, in fact he calls it "Reforestation".Since he only digs in to the flower and fruits of plants, digesting it in mere 20 minutes, the seeds either fall from flight or ends up on his guano since seeds can't be digested. The process is called "Seed Dispersal by Animals" or Epizoochory. That's just why, Batman is Eco Friendly!
4. The Batcave
The Batcave is but one of the most frequent hideout of Batman, well it serves as his home in the first place. Together with an assistant, there he plans strategies to defeat his enemies. There are actually around 70 caves in the Island Garden City of Samal alone, and over millions more from around the world, but it is only at Monfort Bat cave that bats have reached a plenty of 1.8 million. Even bats from other caves migrated on the Monfort Bat Cave in order to survive.
Batman lies beneath the cave, but you would have to dodge traps, climb boulders and face 1.8 million bats and their mighty secrete secret weapons to be able to see him.And since it's in the island, below are series of subterranean caves making it even harder for his enemies and some random stranger to intrude his secret hideout.
Like what I've said on my previous post (The Roadtrip), that on our way I heard something others couldn't. It was just when I reached the bat cave that I realized that Batman and I are already communicating in the echolocation-kind-of-way.Chos! I was once a bat by the way - Bat Boy! Haha!
And yes, he told me all of that! He even added a history , that during the World War II, the cave served as shield and shelter for the Japanese forces. That sadly, the caves that were supposed to be their sanctuary became a trap for the destruction.awts. .
3. He's Famous
In 2008, Batman stood up high (upside down) when the Monfort Bat Cave was accorded a World Record status as the largest colony of fruit bats in the world by the Guinness World Records. That's how famous he is!
2. He's Damn Wealthy
Did you ever wonder where he got all the bucks to avail a super techy headquarters? His fabulous but useless cape, techy gadgets and his armed batmobile? Man..you know nothing of him until I'll tell you that his a billion dollar bat because he shits money.Yeah, like he almost literally shits it out!
In fact it's the secret
1. He Stinks
He lives in a Batcave full of guano, he rarely gets wet, he makes money out of his shit - don't you think he just smells like guano? He stinks! But then, he's just too awesome for a stinky superhero and that's what makes him even great.
It was at Monfort Bat Cave, Barangay Tambo, Island Garden City of Samal where I finally met Batman. To know more about Monfort Bat Cave, please visit their website -> Monfort Bat Cave. There are actually lots of Batman from around the world, protecting, nurturing and balancing the ecosystem. :)
P.S: Just so you know, I'm not really a Batman fan! Not until now. Haha.
Batman is indeed just a representative of all the bats on this post.
Davao Food Appreciation Tour 2011
I was lucky enough to be chosen as a participant in the most prestigious blogging event in the country – the Davao Food Appreciation Tour 2011. Many were called, few were chosen but will I survive 4 days of food overload?
As one blogger said,“ it's the only time in the year were Gluttons will rise and diets will fail.”
And I have proven that to myself when I attended some parts of last years' Davao Food Appreciation Tour. And take note, some parts palang yon! I've thrown my diet away!
DFAT, is actually, my first ever blogging event - in fact, it was during DFAT that I was formally introduced not only to the DFAT 2010 Participants but with the Davao Bloggers as well.Yes! It marked as my first time to associate with bloggers ever! I was just a newbie then and (arguably still) up to now.
After 1 year (yayy! I'm a 1 year old Davao Blogger na!.hehe), returning, debuting as an official and confirmed participant of Davao Food Appreciation Tour 2011, blogging under my colorfully dramatic personal blog (Markable.me) - I shall eat with no mercy this time around! But will this year's event surpass my last year's DFAT experience? Most probably, YES! Still. . .
That’s what you’re going to find out as I chronicle my wanderings around Davao, my little adventures with new found blogger friends and my ravings about the best dishes in the City.
I have yet to blog about the adventures we had during the recently-concluded Davao Food Appreciation Tour that’s why for the meantime – help yourself on looking at the mouth-watering goodness of these sumptuous chows!
Also the Davao Food Appreciation Tour Organizers, would like to thank the following sponsors:

The Road Trip
![]() |
Morning. . . |
It wasn't just my day then, since I woke up late, I haven't had my breakfast and my friends had been constantly texting me, asking where the hell I was. When I arrived at our meeting place depressing thoughts started to fade away. Everyone was smiling as though I came from heaven yet the constant asking of my whereabouts a bit earlier had been quite hell for some of us. Therefore, I came from hell. Haha. >.< Even so it made my day that I suddenly felt cheerful and enthusiastic about the trip.
So I looked around and saw other travelers who will be joining the Samal adventure. "Well, everyone seems to be excited", I thought as I started eating my breakfast. A while later, we started our Samal Island Trip. Hopped on a barge, then later started our 30 minute road trip to our first destination - The Monfort Bat Cave.

| Yeah that's Doc Charles(The Sleeper), Me (The Thinker) and Ate Leah (The Photographer??! Haha). . |
Well it kind of kept me entertained as well. I mean, being around these people for some time in an adventure is a relief from all the things that's been buggin my mind. This trip is going to be a sweet escape from the hustle and bustle of the
I really hate travelling by land, minutes of travel would make me dizzy, hours would make me feel uncomfortable and vomitty. Well, it only took us some time to get to our first destination. But I paid no mind of the travel time since something caught my attention.
As we passed through the rocky roads of Samal Island I heard something others couldn't hear. A tiny sharp prolonged sound which sort of hurt my ear. One said, it was the sound of silence but I didn't quite believed it because the jeep's engine was roaring. It was something like a supersonic wave, (I might have powers you know?haha.).I knew that it was something, I'm looking forward to -

Experience Samal, The Ultimate Way!

| Meet the Travel Blogger - Olanology! |
Me? Personally, more food and water.lol. Not that I didn't have much food to eat but the whole trip would have required a lot of food and water to replenish my energy. It was kinda tough most especially the mountain trek at Mt. Puting Bato. The land travel from a place to another, however gave relief to our feet, isn't quite enough to restore the energy we initially had. Even so, I was still enthusiastic about our next destination.
It was my second visit at the Island Garden City of Samal, the first time I went there was actually just last Christmas vacation. We had a family reunion on one of its beaches, and from that experience I must say Samal is a nice place for gatherings - either social, campy, hang-out with friends, team building or just like ours, a family gathering .
After our pre-Christmas family cruise, I was wondering when I'd ever be able to visit the place again. But thanks to Kuya Olan, he popped that bubble out of my head and called out for his first ever "Olanology's Ultimate Samal Adventure".It was as if, he owned the whole island that I felt very welcomed when he invited me on his adventure on exploring the island.

| Stuffing the sea breeze in your lungs by morning. . |
The magnificent view atop the highest peak of the island. . .
Enjoying every slaps of the water on a waterfalls. . .
And a whole lot more. .
It was indeed an ultimate trip which offered a lot of firsts, fun and "friendships"(whom I first met in the trip).Allow me to turn this personal blog into a travel blog so that I could chronicle my little voyage, on the little island called "SAMAL". And by the way, also allow me to turn this into a food blog as well since DFAT is coming this May 2011.
Just right after this post, wait up for a follow up because it's about time to Experience Samal.
